With funding from the Peter Gruber Foundation, the IAU has awarded two fellowships, each of USD 37,500 to support postdoctoral work in astrophysics by talented, young persons. The evaluation of the IAU Selection Committee led to the nomination of the following two PGF Fellows in 2006: Dr. Inma Martinez-Valpuesta, age 28, with PhD from University of Herfordshire, Center for Astrophysical Research, UK, to study the evolution of barred galaxies at the Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Marseille, France.
Dr. Hum Chand, age 29, from the Inter University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune, India, to do research on the physical state of the Intergalactic Medium at Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris, France.
The IAU congratulates these two Fellows on their awards and wishes them successful and rewarding stays at their respective host institutes!
